Literature Text

love gives you
wings so you can split
your back in two a
long your spinal
chord, scream writhe and
wither away; wings
are just distorted shoulder
blades anyway.

love gives you wings, but
when you are just try
ing to swim to shore you
are sure to be weighed
down by the world on your
shoulders you will

slow you will seek you will

drown.
kind of short and to the point and not perfect but resisting editing and elongation.

love is like a sword in that it is neither good nor evil, it all depends on the people and the motives involved. and the situation. and love is like words in that it is more powerful than a sword. and love is like life in that there are both the glass half empty and glass half full approaches, it depends on your perspective and how you feel and what kind of day you're having and how fortunate or unfortunate you are anyway.
but in this poem, i said something i've been feeling for years; it isn't always god's blessing on earth. sometimes, it doesn't give you endorphins out the wazoo, or make you smile widely all the time, or make you float on clouds, or delight everyone who hears about it, or save worthy lives. let's not forget the unfortunate, unrequited, inhibited and unworthy here, please. let us have a voice, too.
