love gives you
wings so you can split
your back in two a
long your spinal
chord, scream writhe and
wither away; wings
are just distorted shoulder
blades anyway.
love gives you wings, but
when you are just try
ing to swim to shore you
are sure to be weighed
down by the world on your
shoulders you will
slow you will seek you will
drown.

leech jar
and with a rusty scalpel
(which I always have on hand)
I deflower myself,
calculatingly,
to thwart others' ungainly fingers.
I make careful incisions
on wrists, ribs, pelvis;
but this pesky skin keeps
knitting itself back together
(albeit imperfectly)
when I and my lancet
idle.
we make poor surgeons,
my heart and I.

these feelings should be finite
I'm terrified and I know there's nothing unique about this, but I'm standing here completely out of touch with the rest of the world, realizing for the first time that we all feel things a little bit differently, which is why this doesn't hurt for you at all. I figure the only logical reason for how you could do this as if it means nothing was if it really did mean nothing at all for you. It's easier to hate you this way. It's easier to forget you without the burn of your kiss against my skin. It's easier to stay mad if I don't have to remember the way that it felt. Most of all, I can forget this as if it's a memory in someone else's lifetime

Broken Rainbows
There's dimmed, spread out rainbows on the pavement,
A sign of the heavy torrential rain slowly lessening.
While the light paints pretty pictures on the slippery ground; telling a story.
A story of hope and the innocence of childhood all too soon being erased
& |r|e|p|l|a|c|e|d| by fear and heartache.
A story of leaping from a height unknown & crashing onto the concrete; {heart first}
A story of not being caught.
A story of falling in love with his gray-green eyes & thinking that she saw forever in his shimmering, mu-r/ky depths, when all she really saw was e m p t i n e s s in his f

kind of short and to the point and not perfect but resisting editing and elongation.
love is like a sword in that it is neither good nor evil, it all depends on the people and the motives involved. and the situation. and love is like words in that it is more powerful than a sword. and love is like life in that there are both the glass half empty and glass half full approaches, it depends on your perspective and how you feel and what kind of day you're having and how fortunate or unfortunate you are anyway.
but in this poem, i said something i've been feeling for years; it isn't always god's blessing on earth. sometimes, it doesn't give you endorphins out the wazoo, or make you smile widely all the time, or make you float on clouds, or delight everyone who hears about it, or save worthy lives. let's not forget the unfortunate, unrequited, inhibited and unworthy here, please. let us have a voice, too.
